The family of 19-year-old Pankisi resident Temirlan Machalikashvili, who was shot in the head during an antiterrorism operation in Duisi and Omalo villages on 26 December, are requesting that be be transferred to a clinic in Berlin for treatment, and have accused the Georgian Health Ministry of hiding information about the clinic, Sova reports on 9 January.
According to Sova, Machalikashvili’s father, Malkhaz Machalikashvili, claims the family have received consent from a German hospital to treat Temirlan, and have accused the Health Ministry of hiding information that the clinic is ready to admit him. New photos have emerged of Salakhuddin Shishani (formerly Amir of JMA/Imarat Kavkaz in Syria and now Amir of Jaish Usro), and a Chechen named Naib in the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia right before the 2012 Lopota Gorge Incident. There are also photos of Akhmad Chatayev with Naib in Pankisi at the same time. Chatayev was the senior representative of Imarat Kavkaz at the time. In late June, a number of news reports in Russian and Georgian (I can’t read the latter) noted that a 39-year-old militant from Duisi in the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia had been killed “in Syria.” Some of the reports said that the militant had been in the “Yarmouk brigade” and had fought alongside Akhmad Chatayev. The first fact is almost certainly not true (he died in Iraq) and the second is flimsy and unverifiable, but let’s unpick it.
